The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is helping military personnel transition their military driving experience into civilian employment. How is this possible? The NJMVC is waiving the CDL Skills Test (behind-the-wheel exam) for all qualified military applicants. Military personnel will no longer have to provide a commercial vehicle in order to obtain a NJ CDL license.

However, all Veterans who are seeking the Commercial Drivers License’s waiver must meet certain requirements and provide all required documentation to the NJMVC, which including:

1. Proof military service whether of active duty or of reserve component with a minimum duration of about 90 days, while operating any military motor vehicle equivalent to a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).
2. A current or expired military commercial driver’s license along with a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
3. Military CDL Skills Test completed waiver Form authorized by his or her commanding officer or person in charge.
4. Commercial Drivers License knowledge and vision test completed.
5. Presenting 6 Points of Identification with proof of primary address in New Jersey.
6. Commercial Drivers License Medical Examiner’s Certificate card.
